Well done! Żibel volunteers remove over 1.4 tonnes of waste in Gżira clean-up
From shopping trolleys to sunken boats!

A bright, sunny morning in Gżira set the perfect scene for another impactful community clean-up organised by environmental NGO Żibel, as 125 volunteers came together to help restore the area’s coastline and surrounding streets.

Armed with gloves, bags and plenty of determination, volunteers collected an impressive 1,470 kilogrammes of marine debris and land litter in just a few hours. The haul highlighted the scale of the problem, with volunteers retrieving everything from discarded shopping trolleys and traffic signs to three sunken boats pulled from the water.

The clean-up brought together divers and land-based teams, working side by side to tackle waste both above and below the surface. Beyond the physical effort, the event also served as a reminder of the power of community action and how small contributions can lead to meaningful environmental change.

Thank you Żibel, for your constant hard work and determination!
