Hey there! Malta International Airport has another member on its team: a super cool new fire truck. It will be used to further strengthen the airport’s rescue and fire-fighting fleet.

“Meet the latest addition to our rescue and fire-fighting fleet, the Rosenbauer Panther 8x8 fire truck, which has just arrived at our airport all the way from Austria!” MIA said on Facebook earlier today.

“The procurement of this low-emission rescue and fire-fighting vehicle, which is used at major international airports, forms part of Malta International Airport’s fleet modernisation programme,” the airport said in a statement. As part of the €2.9 million investment, two Panther six-wheel-drive fire trucks are also currently on order and will be added to MIA’s fleet come 2021.

“The modern design and optimised features of the Panther fire trucks – including enhanced extinguishing power and inbuilt thermal imaging technology for low-visibility conditions – will enable the Rescue and Fire-Fighting team to respond faster and more efficiently to emergency situations occurring in different scenarios,” the airport shares, saying that a training programme to familiarise the team with this new addition has been drawn up. A cool feature is the truck’s “high-reach extendable turret, which makes this vehicle ideal for high-precision response to emergencies at height.”

Good luck to the team!
