The Weeping House of Qala (Hemm Dar il-Qala) is a local film produced by Mark Doneo that has just been screened at the Vision & Sound Museum in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

In a video posted on socials, Mark talked about the local film and its fab reception in Brazil. “There are Brazilian, French, Belgian and Italian filmmakers who have seen our trailer and they seem genuinely looking forward [to watching the Maltese production],” he explains. “It has always been a dream of mine that a Maltese film is watched by foreigners.”
The Weeping House of Qala is a horror movie with a psychological story that will definitely make you think, have you on the edge of your seat and jumping out of it a time or two! The film is all about the mystery that lingers over the abandoned house on Malta’s sister isle.

The IMDb summary states that it follows the story of a certain Emily Edevane who was abandoned, along with her three little children, by her husband in this very house. Four decades later, a curious documentary crew spend a day in the now dilapidated and desolate house to find out what became of the family, running into some spooky stuff along the way.
“On 20th September, hopefully the day shall come where we meet the Maltese and Gozitan public,” Mark says, talking about the screening that will happen on our islands, including subtitles in English. “If you leave it till the last minute, the best seats will be taken up, and you’ll end up with the front row seats. God doesn’t even want those!” Mark jokes. “Those horror film affacionados shouldn’t miss our movie!”
