WATCH: Parascandalo draws on Maltese culture for new collection & we’re totes intrigued!
YAS honey! Local designer Marco Parascandalo will be showcasing his latest collection, titled Salvaged Beginnings, on 22nd November, and he has just released a teaser. Safe to say, we’re intrigued!
Aptly titled, the collection is inspired by the intricate beauty and promise of new beginnings, and is set to take a somewhat introspective turn as he goes back to childhood and the beginning of his chosen career path and brand. He’s using his roots and Maltese childhood culture as his subject, which has us totally wanting to know more!
The concept is of the Maltese taqbila or rhyme, and during the research phase, Marco realised that the local rhyme originates from the Three Cities, where he’s from, so he naturally felt deeply connected to it. Looking back on his first childhood memory, he fondly remembers learning about the taqbila at summer school: a recollection which he holds close to his heart.
Marco started to reflect on newness, but also took a look back to where he had started. The journey to creating such a collection was nothing if not a colourful one, as we would expect, bringing the concept to life through black, white and neon colours used in past collections.
The brand’s looks will consist of sportswear, coordinated outfits (yas!), streetwear and unconventional chic dresses. Retro shapes and classic silhouettes were the inspiration behind a range of bags and accessories that will complete the looks.
The talented designer is using his next collection as an opportunity to appreciate his past self and open the door for what’s to come. And judging by his hard-work, we predict a future that is nothing short of fabulous!
