WATCH: Maltese roads suffer the consequences in first leg of week-long storm
More of the same is to be expected throughout the week

There’s two main events that Malta gets battered in: international football and the Eurovision. But with November round the corner and October living up to its wet expectations, we have one more category we’d like to include in the ‘trashed’ section.

Storms in October are no real novelty, yet for the majority of the population, most of who are still clinging on to the summer train, the naivety and lack of planning serves a very rude awakening with a side of very, very wet socks.

One specific video from a storm in March accurately reflects the realities most commuters faced yesterday: not only were the streets flooded beyond reason, but buses were going under too. Commuters can be seen piling their belongings unto their laps and lifting up their feet to prevent the water from reaching them as water continues gushing in from under the door.

The person filming laughs at the unfolding event - whether out of nerves or good humour, that is another dilemma entirely. Meanwhile, in keeping with the island's propensity to completely shut down when a storm hits, it wasn't just the roads that suffered! The local emergency number, 112, reportedly went dead this morning following damage caused by the weather. Thankfully though, it's back up now, in good time for when the next bout hits!

Despite the island going haywire and rush hour traffic lasting well into yesterday evening, there is one good thing that comes out of all of it: a fine dose of hilarity on an otherwise bland Monday evening (and Tuesday morning). Take care out there guys!

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
