This is so sweet! A local woman who shares her mum, Agnes’ journey with dementia on Facebook, posted this touching video showing the old lady reciting Maltese nursery rhymes.
“All the practice we do daily in the car has paid off. Well for today at least,” Agnes’ daughter, Mariza says. “Some fun Maltese nursery rhymes.”
The first one she sings is dawra durella, a popular one among locals. “We used to laugh a lot,” she says, giggling after finishing it. “Those were the days.”
She then proceeds to doing a little mashup of a few other rhymes including the famous pizzi pizzi kanna that we’ve all sung at least once in our lives. She then sings banni bannozzi to which she cheekily ends as per the rhyme, “We’ll give everything to Agnes, and to Marisa nothing.” She laughs and says she wanted to switch names. “Heq, that’s how it came out, hijja.”
Watch her recite them here:
What a sweet lady!
