WATCH: Check out the Maltese version of Hotel California sung at Malta Sajf ‘86
We’ve got the giggles!

Us Maltese are known to take the piss out of virtually everything, and this song does just that. Triccas, a local singer performed a hilarious rendition of the popular song ‘Hotel California’ at Malta Sajf back in 1986 held in Pembroke.

A little context for those of us who have no idea what the heck Malta Sajf was. It was basically a big festival that saw youths from all over the island come to celebrate music in their most drunken states of being.

There is another video of Alfi Fabri going round a number of youngsters asking them what they think of the festival as they camped there. One dude saying “Tal-ostja” while holding a beer bottle is the most Maltese thing in the video.

Kif jien imgandar u mhassar” (Oh, how drunk I am – roughly) has got to be the best lyric ever. “Wicci ahmar nar, kull ma nara cpar, kif ser immur id-dar?” (my face is red, I cannot see clearly, how am I going to get home?) is another one. We’ll let you listen to it yourself but it’s basically all about getting drunk in summer. Nothing new to see here. Just xeba buzz.
