Well done! Maltese athlete, Fabio Spiteri breaks national Deca record, taking silver in Colmar
Fabio broke his own national record by 31 hours!

Maltese ultra-triathlete Fabio Spiteri delivered a phenomenal performance at the Bretzel Ultra Triathlon Deca in Colmar, France, finishing second and demolishing his previous national record by an astonishing 31 hours.

The gruelling Deca Ultratriathlon covers a total of 2,260 kilometers; 10 times the length of a traditional Ironman. It includes a 38km swim, followed by a daunting 1,800km bike ride, and concludes with a 422km run, equivalent to ten back-to-back marathons.

Fabio completed the epic challenge in 233 hours, 10 minutes, and 25 seconds. Only France’s Goulwenn Tristant finished ahead of him, clocking in at 222 hours, 24 minutes, and 44 seconds.

This performance marks a major milestone for the Maltese athlete, who had previously set the national record at Lake Garda in 2023 with a time of 264 hours, 51 minutes, and 58 seconds. His Colmar finish improves on that time by more than a full day!

Heading into the event, Fabio aimed to both break his national record and secure a top five finish. Not only did he meet both goals, but he surpassed expectations, claiming second place and reinforcing his reputation as one of Malta’s elite endurance athletes.

Colmar is just one stop on Fabio’s extraordinary journey this year. He's currently taking on the ambitious goal of completing 23 Ironman-distance events within just five months. Next up: a triple Ironman in Austria this August, where he’ll tackle an 11.4km swim, 540km bike ride, and 126km run.

Later in the year, Fabio is set to travel to Taiwan for another Deca Ultratriathlon.

Beyond athletic achievement, Fabio Spiteri continues to tie his efforts to charitable causes. As with last year, he has linked his ultra-triathlon endeavours to ‘Project 100,’ a fundraising campaign aiming to raise €100,000 in support of animal shelters across Malta and Gozo.

Well done, Fabio!
