Many locals flocked the streets of the capital.
Yesterday, 10th February, marked the first of the public holidays on the calendar – that of St Paul’s Shipwreck. While everyone enjoyed the relaxing day, Valletta in particular had a grand ‘ol time with its annual celebrations.
1. Colours everywhere!
The capital brought out its very best for the public holiday, and it’s no wonder many locals snapped away at the gorgeous decorations.
2. Viva San Pawl!
The statue of St Paul was carried through the streets as the celebrations were ongoing. This awesome shot shows the saint under one of the banners and colourful string-like decorations.
3. Gorgeous banners
The banners that line the streets of the capital are intricately woven, usually depicting some part of the Biblical feast the town is celebrating.
4. Even the narrow streets were decked out!
The tiered, narrow streets of Valletta were also ready for the occasion, with decorations put up to get every part of the capital in the mood to celebrate.
5. Band time!
An important part of the feast is the band, or the banda. The band is there to entertain everyone and once a familiar tune is played, there’s no stopping us from joining in on the fun!
6. People flocked the streets
Valletta’s streets were packed with locals from all over the island, with St Paul’s feast being one of the most popular ones. Family time, fun, and a little booze to celebrate - because that’s the Maltese way of celebrating a saint.
7. St Paul was the centre of attention
Everyone present as the statue was brought out couldn’t resist taking out their phones to capture a snapshot of the saint.
8. The aftermath
After the celebrations, this guy was part of the team who cleaned up the streets. Such a beautiful, calm shot.
We hope you had a great long weekend!
