After falling ill at a Thai boxing training camp on Friday, boxing legend Jeff Fenech was recuperated in a Thai hospital, but his condition deteriorated fast, and his health required emergency surgery.
What was initially planned as a key-hole surgery resulted in a five-hour open heart procedure and lung fluid drainage. Despite the danger, Jeff pulled through and is now recovering, with his immediate family by his side and hordes of fans and celebrities anxiously monitoring his progress. Jeff's daughter commented online in support of her dad, posting a collage of the pair together with words of fate and encouragement for her father. "You’re going to pull through this dad. You’re the strongest man I’ve ever known. ❤️", she wrote.
Doctors are now aiming to have the boxing great walk a total of 75 steps in two days’ time, but Jeff’s determination has not been stifled by recent events, and he is said to have replied simply, “give me one day”.
Despite the surgery’s success and Jeff’s indomitable spirit, the three-time world boxing champion will still have to miss his eldest daughter’s wedding in order to fully recuperate.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Mr Marrickville Mauler!
