There’s a budding new artist on the block! 19-year-old Michela Agius is fulfilling her dream of becoming a professional singer, and is set to release new music soon! We spoke exclusively to Michela, who explained where her love for music began.
“Music is quite a prominent feature in my family, and it’s like religion to me! It’s a means of escape, something which I can call my own, and will be with me no matter what.” In fact, Michela reveals that she started singing before she could even talk! She attended Stage Coach from the young age of four, under renowned performer Denise Mulholland’s wing.

Michela goes on to talk about her extensive musical training. “Performing arts was a very important aspect of our education at St Michael Foundation, where I went to school. At the age of eight, I started individual singing lessons at The School of Performing Arts with Dr Joe Gatt and continued on to be mentored by Soprano Gillian Zammit, who also lead me to join the Joseph Calleja choir, and cultivated my love for musical theatre. Recently, I also joined Studio 18 in order to keep my musical theatre background in check, as well as having performed in various musicals in Malta such as The Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, and Mamma Mia.”
The budding young artist is set to release a new cover video of The Beatles’ hit song, Something, next Friday 23rd November. “I wanted to get an old-time classic which everyone loves and put my own twist on it,” she says. Michela adds that it's also a little tribute to her parents who love The Beatles. “I wanted my first cover to be meaningful to me.” The video is produced by local band Red Electrick’s guitarist Peter Borg, musically arranged by Red Electrick’s pianist Aleandro Spiteri Monsigneur, and captured by Edouard Tabone DeMarco.
