Over the last two days, Nature Trust has rescued not only one but two loggerhead turtles that were seriously injured after they were both found entangled in fishing gear.

One of the turtles rescued was a juvenile one and was found by in its horrible state by kayakers. It was named Lea-Haley after the two young girls that help bring the turtle the attention it needed.

It has an ingested hook, and nylon entangled tightly around the front right flipper”, the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta wrote.

The second turtle, named Louisa, is an adult female “that was badly entangled in a cima. It was found with a badly bleeding front right flipper”.

They are now being given all the treatment necessary under the Vet Dr Grupetta.

Nature Trust Malta thanks all fishermen and callers that helped for their rescue. We would also like to thank staff from Sammut Marine Ltd who were at Cirkewwa this morning and helped us load the turtle in our ambulance, and our Gozo Wildlife section volunteers for going out to find it”, the wildlife team added.

We hope to see you being released back home soon!
