Turn it DOWN! These 9 areas in Malta will have to shut down the party by 1am
Party poopers or a necessity?

Oh my! It's just been announced that entertainment establishments in some areas in Paceville, Bugibba and Qawra will be prohibited from playing music after 1am, if the party gets too loud and is heard outside the premises. Yikes!

Ok, that’s not so bad. Paceville, being the party centre that it is, wasn’t affected so much by the legal notice, but these two areas have also been marked:

1. Trejqet Dragunara

2. Triq il-Gdida to Triq Santu Wistin (near the cinemas)

Usually, music from commercial establishments licensed to crank up the volume high enough that can be heard outside their doors is banned after 11pm, (we’ve all had that Debbie Downer who’s called the popo on a house party).

Meanwhile, loud music is banned after midnight in Bugibba, Qawra and St Paul’s Bay. Designated areas in Bugibba, Qawra and Paceville however, cannot play music that is heard outside the premised after 1am.

The law states that establishments licensed to play loud music between 1am and 4am shall not (during these noted hours), cause any inconvenience to the surrounding area as a result of noise heard from outside the premises.

Party goers and establishments may be frustrated about this new notice, while residents in these areas could be jumping for joy. Is it a situation of people being party poopers, or is it a necessity in these areas?

What do you think about this new legal notice?
