Travelling this weekend? Malta-Germany flights cancelled following pilot strike
Lufthansa passengers have been advised to call the airline to confirm their flights’ status.

A number of flights between Malta and Germany scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled, a spokesperson for the Malta International Airport (MIA) has confirmed.

This comes as Lufthansa pilots are set to go on strike tomorrow, Friday 2nd September, in protest against longstanding and unsuccessful pay negotiations.

The German airline has cancelled hundreds of flights to and from Germany as a result of the industrial action.

These are the Lufthansa flights travelling through MIA that have been cancelled:

  • LH1924 Munich – Malta: Departing at 2.45pm
  • LH1925 Malta – Munich: Departing at 5.40pm
  • LH1311 Malta – Frankfurt: Departing at 5.15pm
  • LH1312 Frankfurt – Malta: Departing at 8.20pm

All Lufthansa passengers have been advised to call the airline to confirm the status of their flights. Passengers can also check the status of their flight by visiting the MIA’s website.

Pilots at Lufthansa have been negotiating their pay for a while, with most members of the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union voting in favour of strike action on 31st July.

Talks with the union concluded towards the end of August, however, the new offer put forward by the management wasn’t enough. Just last week a spokesperson for VC, Matthias Baier, made a press statement explaining that there needs to be “a sustainable solution for compensation structures in all job groups” along with “compensating for the loss of real wages”.

Were you planning on travelling with Lufthansa this weekend?
