‘Tis the season! Valletta's Christmas lights to be switched on tonight
All together now: It’s the most wonderful tiiiime of the year!

Jillian Mallia

It’s that time of year again! Tonight, at precisely 6pm, this year's Valletta Christmas lights will be switched on, welcoming the festive cheer in Malta’s capital. Once again, the main streets will be lit, bringing the magical atmosphere we all know and love (yes, including the shopping and the rounds of drinks at the various bars). Here are some of our favourite shots of the Christmas lights over the years.

1. A Christmassy welcome

As you walk through City Gate, you're met with the brightly-lit streets of the capital, and that’s when you know that Christmas has come to town.

2. Dazzling, darling!

Check out Valletta’s 2017 central dome in front of the Law Courts!

3. Ready, steady, shop!

It’s always a joyous time in the capital, with so many people flocking the streets to get things ticked off their Christmas shopping list.

4. Last year’s spectacle

Last year, the lights were complete with a dancing theme on the hour, which saw the lights flickering to music in Valletta’s Republic Street. Extra, but we totally loved it.

5. Insta worthy

There were lots of shots taken in Republic Street in 2017 under the famous Christmas dome, including weird-angled selfies. #Guiltyascharged

6. Twinkles

Fairy lights line the main street up to the main attraction near the law courts, and it’s the cutest thing to see twinkling lights while you shop.

BONUS: The Christmas Tree

While not directly related to the Valletta Christmas lights, the tree is definitely one to look out for when all the decorations go up in the capital. Here it is two years ago - will it be back this year?
