“This year, we have to forget about Christmas gatherings at home” – Chris Fearne
It’s all for the best…

In a TVAM programme this morning, Deputy PM and Health Minister Chris Fearne says, “this year, forget about Christmas gatherings at home.”

Trust us Maltese, it’s going to be quite the sacrifice not to have our huge, extended families over for Christmas drinks, lunch and dinner, as per tradition. This year, we’ll have to create new traditions, that who knows, might actually stick.

The spread of COVID-19 has increased drastically over the past weeks both in Malta and across the globe. Health authorities are constantly reminding us to practice good hand hygiene, to maintain social distance and to wear a mask. New measures also come into effect as of Thursday, which includes a gathering of maximum six people in public spaces and bars, clubs and kazini closing until 1st December.

Christmas and New Year’s celebrations automatically brings together a bunch of people, which is something we all need to avoid at the moment as it could negatively impact not only ourselves but the vulnerable people in our society. Let’s all respect one another and pull the same rope as we continue to battle this pandemic. We’ll still celebrate the festivities, just in a new and creative way.
