This new scheme aims to liven up Maltese localities in the sweetest way
“We’re trying to come up with ways for change in localities.”

Local residents in various localities on the island will be given free plants and flowers to embellish the facades of their residences through a scheme called Spring in the Community – Plant different colours from nature. And it gets better... the Local Council with the most attractive street will win €5,000 to invest in its town or village. Now that’s something we can get behind!

Silvio Parnis, Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities, spoke at the presentation of this ceremony about the importance of continual contact between the local council and its residences and projects such as this.“It’s a very interesting scheme, for which 16 respective local councils have applied and 40 roads will participate. In each of the 40 roads, we will be giving out flowers and plants to liven up the locality.”

He went on the explain that a locality is a home, so things like dirty bus stops, corroded and dilapidated street signs, trash left around the streets, potholes and the works are not acceptable. “My vision for the coming seven years is to have excellent localities,” he continued, and that the future generations will appreciate the change that was made.
