This Birkirkara townhouse displays 6 gorgeous examples of traditional Maltese interiors
What a beauty! Traditional Maltese houses are such gems, and it can be such a shame when they get redeveloped. This Birkirkara townhouse we recently stumbled across is a perfect example of traditional local interiors, showcasing some pretty gorgeous characteristics.
1. The main door
The main entrance to the house would include the street-side door, a little area between the door and the antiporta. Many locals would leave the first door open and keep the antiporta closed, but most of the time unlocked. Some doors feature coloured stain glass characteristics to add a little flair.

2. The entrance hall
The entrance hall, or intrata as we like to call it, links to other rooms, with an often beautiful staircase in the background.

3. Stunning tiling
Traditional Maltese tiles have become quite the motif in interior décor and are back in fashion! The small tiles are placed close together, creating a beautiful pattern.

4. Staircases and narrow corridors
Maltese houses tend to have gorgeous staircases and detailed banisters to match, leading to a narrow corridor that leads to the upstairs rooms.

5. The garden
The peaceful garden is accessible from the living room of this particular property, as is often the case, and is the perfect spot to soak up some sun while listening to your fav tunes or getting through your latest read.

6. The bedroom
Old Maltese houses would often feature wooden furniture, including beds, a wide dressing table and some form of chandelier. Some bedrooms would also feature a traditional closed balcony overlooking the street, where one would sit and watch people go by.

Aren’t they beautiful? We'd live here any day!
