210 new public water dispensers are set to be installed around the Maltese islands by the end of the year, the Water Services Corporation (WSC) and two Ministries announced.

These will join another 300 dispensers that have already been installed in Malta throughout the year. These can be found within Mater Dei Hospital, public schools, and other locations.

The water dispensers work automatically, thus helping to reduce the spread of germs.

The 115 dispensers installed at the aforementioned hospital are believed to have reduced the use of over 711,000 plastic bottles.

Once the new water dispensers are installed, it is believed that Malta will reduce around two million plastic bottles yearly.

Environment, Energy, and Enterprise Minister Miriam Dalli and Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation Minister Clifton Grima praised this initiative as one ‘to leave a positive impact on both health and the environment’.

“This initiative aims to encourage the use of reusable water bottles while offering high-quality water. Such investment translates into two million plastic bottles less each year while encouraging the public to drink more water for health benefits,” Minister Dalli said.

“From a young age, children need to be taught how to take care of themselves, and this is being done through various initiatives, such as education on food and drink consumption as well as on the importance of increased physical activity,” Minister Grima added.

Have you ever made use of these dispensers?
