You might remember the name Luke Saydon from the incredible success brought by ‘It-Teatru tal-Miskin’ – the first ever queer musical in Maltese that wowed audiences and sold out on three separate runs. After debuting to rave reviews in 2022, some fans even made the trip to Gozo to catch the show there, eager not to miss out on the groundbreaking performance. It later went on to win 5 Arts Council Malta Premju Għall-Arti Awards, including Best Production, Best Work for Young Audiences, Best Creative Practitioner and Best Young Artist awarded to Luke Saydon.

Sure enough, the moment Saydon’s second musical, from the moment ‘Il-Kazin tal-Imqarbin’ was announced, to be staged at Valletta’s Campus Theatre this October, tickets have been flying off the figurative shelves.

Starting with seven shows, running on 11-13th and 17th-20th October, tickets almost entirely sold out in a month, so four more shows have been added at the same venue, on 24th-27th October.

‘Il-Kazin tal-Imqarbin’ draws inspiration from real Maltese queer stories and is described as ‘a love letter to a queer generation that went uncelebrated’. Written by Luke Saydon and directed by Denise Mulholland, the musical stars some of Malta’s faces of the moment, including Jamie Cardona and Raphael Pace. With its promise of being big, bold, and beautiful, it has already captivated audiences, with hundreds of tickets sold and a clear message – this is a show not to be missed. Get your tickets from the Ticketline website (note that the show is rated 15+).

Have you managed to grab tickets to ‘Il-Kazin tal-Imqarbin’?
