Did you know that Maltese people change the colour of their roof flags according to what day of the week it is?
Such traditions continue to make the skyline of Maltese villages that much more beautiful.

Emma Galea

If you’re visiting Malta for the first time you might have noticed that a lot of the roofs of Maltese households have different coloured flags on long poles but did you know the reason why?

They put them up to celebrate their local village feast, but some go as far as changing the flag ever single day during the duration of their home feast.

Those who practise such a tradition then put up their best made, largest and most decorated flag on the last day of the feast for everyone to see as it flutters alongside the village’s skyline.

Some of them even have the statue of their parish painted on the flag itself.

Such traditions really make Maltese village even more colourful as they continue to increase the fun and amazing ambience of the feast.
