These two Maltese 16-year-olds have launched a cool thrift store concept with a twist!
I love coming across fun and innovative stuff on our islands. The other day as I was messing about on Instagram (as you do), and stumbled upon a friend’s story that linked to a very cool new account. And obviously, being the curious cat that I am, I just had to know more.
Enter Julian and Cristina, the two 16-year-olds behind new clothing concept @TheBlueCorduroy, that revamps clothing with artistic designs. Julian is the artist in this two-man project, while Cristina takes on the managerial and marketing part. “Now that we have both completed secondary school and pushed through our O Levels, together we decided to start this small Instagram business by pooling both our interests and skills,” Cristina starts off.
So where did the idea come from?
Cristina started experimenting by painting a small image on a pair of worn out jeans... “After a while, a friend of ours spoke to me and asked whether I could transform a pair of her new shorts. They turned out great and the whole concept began,” says Julian. And soon after, their new idea started taking shape.

The online concept
“Both our interests seemed to go well together, and we believed that the internet was a good place to start off!” they say. “Nowadays, many people have easy access to Instagram, so we felt that this would be a good starting point besides word of mouth, especially since the social media outlet is a popular platform amongst the younger generation.”
The whole idea is to encourage people to find different ways to re-purpose their own clothing. “We wanted to provide a space to advertise different ways to renew items. Also, being a very long summer break, we thought that this would be a good way to keep us busy whilst earning a little cash in the process.”
What can I do to get hold of cool items?
1. Message their Instagram page or call them up.
2. Decide on whether you’ll be using your own clothing or choosing from the few items they’ve got available.
3. Choose the design you want on your fab clothing.
4. Leave it in their capable hands and plan your pick-up/delivery.
