The Malta Society of Arts (MSA) has just launched its new schedule of summer courses, taking place throughout July and August. There will be over 30 different classes on offer in visual and applied arts, as well as performing arts for students of all ages. Classes and training will take place at the MSA’s seat, at the Palazzo de La Salle in Valletta.

Among the new courses is ‘Drama for Fun’, a course taught by known local actor Emanuel Cassar. The course is aimed at kids aged between 10 and 15 years of age. Also, there are violoncello lessons on the schedule for the first time since Kristina Dimic, a new violoncello and violin teacher, joined the committed staff of teachers at the MSA at the beginning of this year. Pianoforte and Guitar (Electric, Acoustic, and Classical) also form part of the performing arts section.

For better connection with the instructor and a greater understanding of the instrument, students will be taught in extremely small groups or one-on-one during these music classes. Students will also receive instruction in posture, technique, repertory, and how theory and practice relate to one another.

The visual arts section will offer art courses for kids and adults alike such as Art for Leisure aimed at those who want to practice art as a hobby, and Art for Mature Students which caters for participants of more advanced age.

Kids and teens can get their hands dirty in Clay Modelling courses while the popular Nude Figure class offering a live model at each session, is also part of the scheduled course.

For the more free-spirited artists, a Portraiture workshop will also be offered in which like-minded artists can meet and create together, without the need for tutors, in the presence of a live model.

Arts and crafts fans have not been forgotten with courses in Crochet, Dressmaking, Embroidery, Knitting, Lace Making, Sewing for Beginners, and Tailoring; all with the aim to help in their sustainability for the future.

Adrian Mamo, MSA President Arch. stated, “One very important aspect of the Malta Society of Arts since its inception in 1852, has been its pivotal role as an arts education organisation, and we are incredibly proud to still offer courses in the various artistic fields to this day.”

Applications are out now and students can apply through the MSA’s newly launched website here.
