Entrance to the ceremony is free, although booking is necessary.
The Tas-Sliema Local Council has just taken to social media to reveal the five recipients of this year’s Premju Gieh Tas-Sliema.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony taking place on Friday 28th October at the Deporres Hall, Tigne Seafront. The event will also include musical performances from The Travellers, Dancel Dance Studio, and Poland’s very own Alicja Grabowska & Com.
These are the five individuals set to be honoured with a Premju Gieh Tas-Sliema:
1. Fr Marius Zerafa
A Dominican Friar best known for his help in the recover of Caravaggio’s masterpiece Saint Jerome Writing. Fr Zerafa unfortunately passed away last weekend at the age of 93.
2. Mr Anthony Mahoney
A well-known local artist, Anthony Mahoney is behind a large collection of landscapes, dreamscapes, and seascapes. Just a few years ago, Mahoney published a book titled ‘Mystic Artist: A Study of Anthony Mahoney’s Works’.
3. Mr Karl Izzo
Karl Izzo is the head coach of Malta’s Water Polo National Team and the director of the World Water Polo Coaches Association.
4. Mro Ferdinando Camilleri
Throughout his lifetime, Ferdinando Camilleri (1859 – 1942) spearheaded many band clubs around Malta and Sliema. He is also known to have composed an array of well-known works, such as La Speranza Polka Nru 1, Galop, and Gloria in Excelsis.
5. Ms Rita Diacono
A mother of 11 and grandmother of 30, Rita Diacono has raised some of Malta’s best-known and most talented chefs and restaurateurs. Diacono also uses her parenting expertise to help families with their own domestic issues.
The awards ceremony will be kicking off at 6:45pm. Entrance is free, although booking Is necessary.
