This weekend’s feast in St Julian’s came and went and was quite the party, but not everyone thought so. Local chef and owner of Crust Bakery – Bar – Bistro in St Julian’s, Sean Gravina, posted a status to Facebook that has sparked discussions about the beloved feast.
Sean says that he knows the St Julian’s feast very well but felt that yesterday’s edition was “a bit weak and strange. I don’t know what happened and why. I could be wrong,” he said. “Shame, as I think it was/is the best festa.”
Locals immediately began commenting about this year’s feast and the current sitch in St Julian’s. “Could it be that our generation is now ‘older’ and the new one doesn’t feel as attached to St Julian’s as the previous generation?” debated one Facebook user.
“Thought it was great,” began another user. “Yet, how long can one’s stamina last in the heat?” A valid point, my friend!
“Few true Giljanizi are left,” laments another Facebook user in the comments section. “In a generation or two, will there be anyone left to put up the street decorations? To organise the bands and the gostra? To carry the statue?” he said. “Having said that, hats off to the several remaining Giljanizi who put up such a great festa against all odds,” he remarked.
What do you think? Has the St Julian’s feast changed so much?
