Then & now! These 2 well-known Sliema landmarks are virtually unrecognisable
Do you remember the Alhambra?

Sarah Micallef

We all love a good throwback, and these photos showing two of Sliema’s most iconic buildings, have hit us right in the feels.

Do you remember when the shiny new Zara shop on Tower Road was home to the Alhambra Theatre?

A large cinema built in the late ‘50s, the Alhambra was the place to be until it was closed in the 1970s, and while the beautiful new Zara shop has taken over the bottom of the façade, the apartments in the block above remain relatively unchanged!

A short walk away, the Plaza Shopping Mall on Bisazza Street was the first of its kind on the islands, when it opened in the early 90s. It was the preferred meeting spot of many, apart from a beloved shopping destination, and remains just as popular today!

Do you remember either of these Sliema landmarks in their original state?
