Here's a nice win for the Maltese environment! The Wied Fulija landfill located in Zurrieq, boasting incredible views of the Med, will be transformed into a family park through a €4 million investment. The landfill that sits on Malta’s southern coast was in operation between 1979 and 1996.

In a Facebook post, Environment Minister Jose Herrera announced that the works by Wasteserv at the former landfill have begun. According to his post, 95,000 square metres of land will be rehabilitated and given back to our families and 45,000 trees and shrubs will be planted. The project will take five years to complete, and a second landfill is also being regenerated.

This greenery will be replacing the glass and construction waste that currently sits at the landfill. Once completed, the project will be improving the area’s natural environment, while also providing locals with a park to enjoy with their families.
