If you’re old enough to remember the old Sliema, then chances are you’ve paid a visit (or two) to the iconic Army and Navy restaurant in your lifetime…

“The sweetest of memories, a bygone era. The Rolls Royce of takeaways,” wrote John C. Navarro about an old photo of the once-famous Sliema eatery.

John’s comments sent a plethora of other Facebook users down memory lane, as they all reminisced about the Army and Navy’s mouth-watering delicacies.

“I used to love eating there when I was 18… today I’m 71-years-old,” one commenter wrote to highlight just how much time has passed since the photo was taken.

Another commenter, who happened to work at the restaurant as a cook, paid tribute to two of his former colleagues; a cook known as ‘id-Duwi’ and an elderly waiter called Censu. Both of them have since passed away.

Over the years, the Army and Navy restaurant went through some huge changes, having been passed on to a new owner who had to close up shop once the pandemic hit.

Since then, the outlet’s been taken over by yet another owner who has remodelled it and named it ‘Bistro 13’.

Have you ever visited the Army and Navy?
