That was INTENSE.
Last night, possibly everyone (or a good chunk at least) on the Maltese Islands was glued to some screen or other watching the second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. And while it was a VERY close call, Malta made it through to tomorrow’s final. But damn, we felt ALL the feels.
1. Sitting through the first 10 songs
We’re excited to see the features around Israel, and to hear the first 10 songs. We need to gauge the competition’s levels.
2. Watching Michela’s performance
VIVA MALTA! It’s Michela’s turn and you cannot help but vibe and sing (off tune) to her catchy pop song, Chameleon.
3. Ok, we can chill a bit now
She slayed. We’re happy. Now we can chill, grab a beer and watch calmly till the end of the showcase (while also checking Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all the latest gossip and comments).
4. Voting is closed!
It’s time to sit our asses back down because things are about to get GOOD.
5. The results are in!
Tensions are high. 18 countries participated but only 10 can go through and you REALLY want Malta to hit the Final stage on Saturday.
6. Sour puss
“X’inhu? Din ghaddiet? How can it be? If she goes through and we don’t, I’m never watching Eurovision EVER AGAIN,” was one thing I heard (or said, I’m not sure) last night.
7. The top contenders got through
Obviously, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden got through, and we can be sports because they had pretty strong songs. But Malta hasn't gone through so we're not happy. Yet.
8. The last spot
Nine spots have been taken up and there’s only the last one. Tensions are HIGH. You can hear screams from the crowd and all those watching in the living room. We’re sweating at this point.
9. The presenters take their sweet ass time
There was a lot of “AQLAGHHA HIJ!!” being screamed at the screens in Maltese households. The presenters really pushed our buttons by taking their time, raising the tensions before announcing the last qualifier.
10. MALTA!
YEEEESSSS! Screams of pure joy, excitement and absolute pride rang through Maltese houses and the venue at Tel Aviv. There were tears, hugs and much waving of the Maltese flag (or the family dog). That was tense but WE MADE IT! #AjmaQalbi
Only God knows what we'll be going through tomorrow night!
