That's rubbish! NGO Zibel collects a whopping 2.2 tonnes of waste in just 5 hours

Zibel have done it again! The local NGO and environmental conservation organisation organised another clean-up last Saturday at Sirens Bay in St Paul’s Bay, and collected an incredible amount of waste: 2.2 tonnes (2194.36 kg). Damn.

Over 80 diving, snorkel and coastal volunteers collected and “sifted through an endless flow of mainly plastic and tyres, sorting the diver’s catch and packaging it all up for recycling,” they wrote in a Facebook post.

The collected waste was divided as follows:

1. Recyclable ocean plastic: 237.04 kg

2. Recyclable ocean plastic bottles: 64.26 kg

3. Glass: 11.34 kg

4. Metal: 9.38 kg

5. General: 187.1 kg

6. Tyres: 1310.92 kg amounting to 114 tyres

7. Fishing gear: 37.9 kg

8. Batteries: 10.4 kg

9. Bulky waste: 324.02 kg

10. Bottle caps: 2.5 kg
