With last yesterday’s terrible storm being called one of the worst in the islands’ history, it’s no surprise that most locals took shelter from the elements and stayed in their homes for its duration.

That wasn’t the case for one local photographer though, who ventured to Valletta’s Grand Harbour to witness the strong winds wreak havoc on the shore. And that photographer, the talented Kurt Arrigo, was awarded for his efforts with some truly stunning shots that look more like a William Turner painting than real life scenes.

Captioning the shots “What 50+ knots looks like”, the painterly images capture towering waves beating down on an aptly positioned lighthouse, which gave new meaning to the term ‘weathering the storm’.

Despite the sheer size of the waves being more than a little terrifying, the overall results really take your breath away, proving that beauty can be born, even from unpleasant circumstances!
