Malta left quite the impact at this year's edition of the FIA Motorsport Games Esports Cup.

Said competition is part of the FIA Motorsport Games – a multi-sport motorsport event of nations administered by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.

The competition features a variety of motorsport categories, ranging from autocross and crosscar to rallying and kart racing, as well as its very own motorsport esports category.

This was only the second edition of the FIA Motorsport Games, having launched in 2019. Both of the competition’s 2020 and 2021 editions were postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For this year’s games, Malta was represented by kart racers Lucas Pace, Kian Gauci, Owen Mangion, Ella Zammit, Kyle Mercieca, Nicky Gauci, Raisa Psaila, and Kieran Galea, as well as esports racer Dean Vella.

Team Malta participated in six different categories: esports, karting sprint junior, karting sprint senior, karting endurance, and karting slalom.

In the esports category, Dean Vella first worked his way through General Qualifying round, in which he ranked 31st out of 57 participants. After that, Dean participated in Quarter Final One, ranking 10th out of 19 participants and thus advancing to Semi Final 2 – the last step before the final.

Unfortunately, Dean Vella did not manage to make it past this stage, although he managed come in at a respectable 18th place.

According to TVM Sport, Team ranked 23rd out of 31 in the Karting Sprint Junior category, 16th out of 29 in the Karting Sprint Senior category, and 10th out of 16 in the Karting Slalom category.
