Talk about stylish! Catching up with Maltese fashion influencer Abigail Vick
From teaching to trendsetting...

Meeting Abigail Vick for the first time was like meeting a friend, and that is why her followers love her. We can’t get enough of Abigail it seems, and neither can a whole lotta big brands and local shopping destinations!

Abigail has an innate sense of putting outfits together, pulling in clothing and accessories, handbags and shoes into her #OOTD and rocking them. She loves dressing up, but she can also do street style down to a tee. On the day of our meeting, Abigail sported a cute '80s-wash denim jacket and a headscarf, but when she’s dressed up for an evening event, she dazzles in stunning designer numbers, such as when she showed up for at the latest Geatano Couture fashion show - we were wowed!

As confident as she may appear, Abigail has always been honest with the fact that she does suffer from anxiety at times, especially the time just before her first catwalk appearance. After conquering that fear, she went out and strutted her stuff and she was an instant natural. “The feedback I got was amazing. And it’s moments like then where you have to look back and remember that if you did something brave like that, you can do it again!” Wise words!

Nowadays, she represents big labels locally like Liu Jo, a seriously stylish Italian fashion house which she is the brand ambassador for in Malta. She’s also the face of Disrupt and The Dressing Room, two of Malta’s faves amongst fashionistas looking for something a little unique. Abigail counts Rihanna as her main style icon, and her first fashion memories start from way back. She remembers dressing her little sister up in clothes from her mum’s wardrobe and doing her makeup. “She still seeks my approval!” she laughs.

Abigail is into mixing up her style. She’s often seen wearing chic, ladylike outfits or luxe sportswear looks, but is also a big fan of denim, “even denim on denim!” she admits. And boy does it look good on her! For winter, she loves a good polo neck, and even raids her nanna’s wardrobe for '80s jackets with shoulder pads. Her favourite accessory is a scarf, whether it be used as a neck scarf, headscarf or even a head-turning turban - ever so on trend right now.

She’s a girly girl at heart, as well as being head over heels in love with clothes, she also loves makeup. Her signature look is a red lip paired with winged eyeliner, although she does love brown tones and bronzer too. When it comes to taking time out for a little self care, Abigail Vick loves nothing more than winding down at home and spending some quality alone time. “I tidy my room, shower from head to toe and complete my full beauty routine- that really calms me down. And of course a bit of Netflix and chill goes down well when I need to unwind!”

Apart from being one of our local fashion influencers, Abigail is also an aspiring teacher, and is absolutely dedicated to her chosen career path. When she's not attending glitzy events, she can be found in the classroom with the little ones or textbooking it up at the University of Malta. In fact, Abigail stresses the fact that so called ‘influencers’ do have a normal life. For her, the most important part of being considered an influencer is to pass on the message to always be yourself.

When it comes to social media, Abigail is quick to admit that although people say you shouldn’t base how you feel on what others think, it does give her confidence to get good feedback, and she’s happiest when she can go to bed and feel like she’s passed on a message of encouragement to her followers - although she hates that word!

When it comes to advice, Abigail has this to say: “The first thing is to start with loving yourself. To believe in yourself and to challenge yourself. Once you start being your true self, everything else will fall into place, and once that happens, you won’t be affected by other people’s negativity.” Wow, we’re so down with that!
