Taking the bus on Sunday? Here are the schedule changes due to the Malta Marathon
Some trips will be rescheduled, while others will be diverted or cancelled.

You may have heard through the grapevine or via some run-happy friends that the Malta Marathon is taking place this Sunday 22nd February, from early morning till the early afternoon. For this reason, Malta Public Transport has announced that several bus routes will be affected by temporary cancellations, diversions or delays.

Here are the key routes being affected by the Malta Marathon, but keep in mind that additional routes may experience delays or diversions as drivers wait for roads to reopen. If you plan to travel by bus on the day, definitely make sure to plan your journey in advance and allow for extra travel time.

These are the trips departing earlier or later than usual:

  • Route 202 Sliema – Rabat at 05:30 → 5 minutes earlier
  • Route 109 Lapsi – Baħrija at 05:45 → 5 minutes earlier
  • Route 52 Valletta – Dingli at 06:00 → 5 minutes earlier
  • Route 182 Mtarfa – Mater Dei at 06:28 → 5 minutes earlier
  • Route 202 Rabat – Sliema at 07:00 → 15 minutes later
  • Route 186 Buġibba – Rabat at 08:05 → 15 minutes later

These are the trips that will be cancelled or changed significantly:

  • Route 51 Valletta – Mtarfa at 06:10 → turns back from Qali 1
  • Route 51 Mtarfa - Valletta at 07:05 → cancelled
  • Route 109 Baħrija – Lapsi at 06:35 → cancelled
  • Route 186 Buġibba – Rabat at 06:35 and 07:15 return → cancelled
  • Route 202 Sliema – Rabat at 07:30 → cancelled (08:45 Route 186 cancelled)
  • Route 186 Buġibba – Rabat at 07:35 → (08:30 Route 201 also cancelled)
  • Route 53 Valletta – Rabat at 07:20 → turns back from Qali 1; 08:20 return cancelled)
  • Route 186 Rabat – Buġibba at 08:15 → will bypass Terminus; continue via Buqana)
  • Routes 403, 404, 405 → cancelled between 06:30 and 10:00
  • Rabat Shuttle → cancelled between 06:15 and 08:35 (resumes 08:55)
