The areas are named after the Apostle Paul following his shipwreck on our islands.
Heritage Malta is giving locals and visitors a rare opportunity to visit the incredible area of San Pawl Milqi in Burmarrad and the legendary St Paul’s Islands just off Selmun. The heritage team will be organising an exceptional guided tour of both sites which, according to tradition, are directly linked to none other than the Apostle Paul himself.

San Pawl Milqi
The interesting archaeological site of San Pawl Milqi gets its name from the small chapel nearby, which replaced the 15th century chapel of St Paul Bindichi in the mid-17th century, both of which were built on the remains of a Roman Villa. This villa is traditionally connected with the house of Publius, and therefore the place where St Paul was welcomed by the First Citizen.

St Paul’s Islands
As the story goes, the ship on which the Apostle Paul was aboard was wrecked on these islands during a violent storm. A famous statue of the Saint, visible from miles away on the island, was set up to commemorate this historical event. Tour participants will be allowed to wander around the island, exploring everything it has to offer and learning more through the informative guided tour.

It is advised to attend the tour wearing comfy clothing and shoes, and to also bring along some snacks and drinks. Beware though! The San Pawl Milqi area is a bee-keeping site, so tour participants are advised to refrain from wearing perfume, scented oils, shower products and excessive sunblock. We definitely wouldn't want a nasty sting!

The price for this fantastic tour is €30 for adults, €25 for seniors and students, and €20 for Heritage Malta members and children. Tickets can be purchased from all Heritage Malta museums and sites, and online from their website.
