Messages of support and well-wishes have poured in from local football clubs for 18-year-old footballer Matteo Grima who was left fighting for his life after being involved in a traffic accident earlier this week.

Mtarfa FC Youth Nursery, Matteo's first move into professional football, sang their praises for the talented and resilient footballer: "This is a shock for all of us. Matteo is a very dedicated player, committed for training, kind and gentleman on and off the pitch. Matteo is well-known for his positive attitude and also for his determination to reach his goals. He never take no for an answer and we hope God will listen to our prayers and help this young player," they wrote in a public Facebook post, also inviting others to keep Matteo in their thoughts and prayers.

The Zebbug FC Youth Nursery, with whom Matteo played for one season, also extended their well-wishes: "Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in such a critical time...stray strong dearest Matteo," a heartfelt Facebook post read.

Dingli Swallows FC Youth Nursery also extended their support towards the young player: "Our nursery would like to join the football community and wish a speedy recovery to Matteo. See you soon on the pitch - In our prayers," their post read.

The Malta Football Association asked the local football scene to keep Matteo in mind at such a critical time:"Maltese football rallies behind young football player and national team enthusiast Matteo Grima...Our thoughts are with Matteo who had a work experience with the Malta FA as an intern. We ask you to remember him in your prayers. Forza Matteo."

Keep fighting Matteo!
