Watch out, little one!

A beautiful little specimen of Malta’s il-qabru, a freshwater crab, was spotted last week near the San Martin area in Mgarr. Casually making its side-step to cross the road, this crab needs to learn road rules if he wants to venture off into cities... the poor chap nearly got run over!

According to a post shared on Malta Bike Marshals' Facebook page, the tough warrior crab seemed to have quite a lot to say to the motorcycle that nearly crushed him, but all the poor guy tried to do was put the crab back in a safe place. No need to get all defensive, dude! This hooman is on your side.

The Maltese il-qabru is a rare and endangered endemic species, so it's not every day that one is spotted. In March 2018, it was declared a National Species by the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), giving it greater protection. But this little dude needs to watch out if he’s going to avoid extinction!
