So long! Gozo starts getting rid of its ‘largest illegal scrapyard’
Xewkija’s getting some well-needed TLC.

Malta’s Planning Authority (PA) has just revealed that it has started getting rid of Gozo’s ‘largest illegal scrapyard’.

Located within the limits of Xewkija, photos show how the scrapyard was home to anything from cars, tyres, and metal parts to old appliances, fans, and plenty of tyres.

“The Authority used heavy vehicles to start removing what is considered to be one of Gozo’s largest ‘scars’,” the PA added.

Cranes can be seen lifting vehicles and other heavy objects onto trucks, presumably to dispose of them in a responsible manner.

Speaking to Times of Malta, a PA spokesperson noted how many enforcement notices were issued at the Xewkija site before direct action was taken.

The site spans around 15,000 square metres.

Well done!
