Malta's national airline is bidding farewell to it's retro vintage jet after long years of service.

In a Facebook post, Air Malta said that "Today we bid farewell to our retro livery jet 9H-AEI (C/N 2189 - Nicknamed Rabat Citta Vittoria). The aircraft was painted in a retro suite to commemorate our 40th Anniversary."

Affectionately nicknamed 'India', the jet was one of the fleet's most instagrammed aircrafts: "We have fond memories to cherish together," the post continued.

Revealing the airline's future plans, Air Malta said: "We are actively continuing our plans to modernise the fleet and are replacing older aircraft with brand new state of the art Airbus 320 Neo ones which are more fuel efficient, emit less CO2 in the atmosphere and quieter."

So long Rabat Citta Vittoria!
