According to Identity Malta Agency, “Maltese citizens will soon be getting a new eID card as production enters final stage.”

In a post on Facebook, they shared that the new card “will ensure strong performance, longevity and durability but it will mainly stand out for security reasons.”

They also inform the public that unlike in the last update in 2014, there won’t be a mass roll-out of the new eID cards, but rather they “will be issued to Maltese citizens on either renewal or new applications.” Meaning if your ID is about to expire or you need to apply for a new one, you’re one of the lucky ones who will be testing these bad boys out first.

The new security features include MLI, OVI, DOVID, holograms and UV print which minimise the risk of the documents being tampered with or falsified.
