Please sir, no more! Following the recent incident of vandalism on protected trees in Dwejra Bay, the San Lawrenz Local Council is asking the authorities to seriously offer this area more security. “In addition to the damage done and the abuses that take place continuously, the Council has repeatedly drawn attention to other abuses that take place both during the day and more and more at night,” they said in a statement.

Apart from the need of increase in police presence, the Council reiterates the need for CCTV surveillance. “If the Council is provided with the necessary funding, the council will be ready to undertake this project itself, but the Council notes with regret that not only the council is not be given funds to be able to manage the area but in the last allocation the money that is supposed to be given was reduced,” they said.

The Council has since planted some new trees but urges for support on the matter. “The Council therefore urges the authorities concerned to take the necessary steps and even support the Local Council in the care and interest it shows towards this area which forms an important part of the locality of San Lawrenz.”
