All pet owners can agree that very few things are more painful than losing a loving, furry friend…

Unfortunately, Australia-based Maltese priest Fr Rob Galea had to go through this heart-breaking ordeal very recently, after losing his dog, Gozo.

Fr Rob took to social media to make the sorrowful announcement and pay tribute to his 11-year-old dog.

“It is with a broken heart that I had to say goodbye to my best friend and companion Gozo yesterday,” the priest wrote.

“I am so sad but also grateful for the incredible gift he has been to me over the last 11 years. He brought me joy and showed me unconditional love and faithfulness. I miss you,” he concluded.

Of course, Fr Rob received an incredible amount of support from his followers and fellow dog owners, who can undoubtedly sympathise with his pain.

“May God bless you and give you strength at this time,” wrote one commenter.

“So, so sorry. It’s difficult to lose our four-legged friends,” added another.

The singing priest had shot up to fame a couple of years ago after auditioning for XFactor Australia.

We’re sorry for your loss, Fr Rob!
