Redder than ever! Mellieha Red Tower is looking FAB as restoration works continue
What a beaut!

Jillian Mallia

She’s looking mighty fine! Mellieha’s Red Tower is receiving some much-needed TLC through restoration works.

“Intensive work is being carried out at the Red Tower, Mellieha. All works are taken care of by the NGO Din l-Art Helwa. These important works are funded by EU funds and also financial help from the Ministry of Tourism,” wrote Councillor Anabelle Brincat Stellini on Facebook.

The Tower, also known as St Agatha’s Tower, is an important part of Maltese history as it forms part of the coastline watchtowers. It dates back to the mid-17th century and is the sixth of the Lascaris towers. We wish there was a fancier story for why it’s red, but it was simply painted that way. But, the colour has been retained during restoration works over the years.
