Spring hasn’t been too cooperative on the Maltese Islands so far when it comes to the sunshine we islanders so desperately crave. It’s been windier and wetter than usual, but thankfully, long-term weather maps are indicating that this sitch is about to change.
According to Maltese Islands Weather, “this year’s summer should be hotter than average.” YAAAS! However, apparently, things aren’t as straightforward as they seem. The local weather site also stated that “Anticyclones over northern Europe will be stronger than normal. Simultaneously, the Mediterranean region will experience lower than average atmospheric pressure.”
Basically, in simpler terms, these anticyclones and pressures will prevent cold air from reaching Europe and instead, allow hot air from the Sahara to rise up. So yup, a “hotter than average summer” is on the horizon for much of Europe.
And that’s not all! While we will be having plenty of sunshine, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be some uninterrupted days. “Stronger anticyclones over northern Europe will mean that storms which normally affect the British Isles and Scandinavia will be pushed further south,” said the weather site. As a result, “wetter than average conditions are to be expected for much of the Mediterranean.
The Maltese Islands may also see some unseasonable rain in the summer months, it continues, but, erm, didn’t we have enough of that this winter?! The weather site continues by describing it as a “tropical summer, where the rain and subsequent humidity will make the already hot temperatures feel even hotter!”
Oh! We’d better get those air conditioners cleaned and ready to rumble!
