Postcard worthy! Siggiewi's village square looks almost the same as it did 40 years ago
How beautiful!

Much has changed in Malta in the last half-century, however sparse gems scattered across the islands depict a near-perfect preservation of the island's quaint architecture and community spirit.

In pictures taken 40 years apart, the Siggiewi village square appears largely untouched, with both the church and main statue in the middle of the pjazza left to their former glories.

Apart from the extra cars in the street, one noticeable change is the dress - with people captured in the first photo shown wearing a more traditional and conservative clothing style. Another discrepancy is the buildings adjacent to the church, some of which have been restored to fit with the times.

Such scenes may yet become a common feature in Malta after plans to safeguard the islands' pjazza culture were announced earlier today

How beautiful to see such open areas beautifully preserved!
