High waves have also been observed across the north and east coast of the islands
Although the colder months have been slow to arrive, evenings in Malta are now noticeably chillier, marking the beginning of the journey towards winter. After a weekend of grey skies and scattered rain, Maltese Islands Weather forecasts more rain starting this evening, with a chance of occasional thunderstorms, expected to continue into Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday should remain dry, but as the weekend approaches, the likelihood of rain increases, with Sunday October 27th currently showing the highest chance of showers.
Winds are also expected to strengthen tonight, reaching Force 5 to 6 after the anticipated rainfall. While calmer conditions are forecast for Wednesday, winds will pick up again toward the end of the weekend.
Maltese Islands Weather has also reported unusually high waves along Malta’s northern and eastern coasts, particularly around harbour areas, despite today’s calm winds. This unusual wave activity is linked to the storm that impacted Malta on Saturday, which remains stalled some 200km east of the islands due to high pressure over eastern Europe and the Balkans. This system is creating sea swells - waves generated by distant storms rather than local winds - causing dangerous conditions for boats and small vessels entering or leaving ports.
