Panto season is upon us! Here are all the shows you simply can’t miss this Christmas
What better way to spread festive cheer than through laughter?

There are four things that spell Maltese Christmas cheer: food, family, decorations and pantomimes. With the first three already accounted for in most Maltese households, its time to shift focus to the final piece of the perfect Christmas formula. We've compiled a list of all productions being put up this pantomime season - choosing has never been easier!

Aladdin 2020

Written by queen of dames, Alan Montanaro, this year’s edition will see MADC effect its own spin on Disney’s Aladdin. Starring Alan Montanaro himself alongside a cast of over 30 actors and dancers, the production is guaranteed to be a treat for all ages. With a total of 12 shows between Monday 23rd December and Saturday 4th January, the production offers one Oriental journey that’s impossible to miss.

The Little Mermaid – A Panto Under The Sea

FM Productions’ take on Maltese panto, this year’s production involves everyone’s favourite Disney princess. Featuring many familiar faces, as well as introducing some new characters to the classic tale, the production's run from Sunday 22nd December to Sunday 5th January at Teatru Manoel promises a healthy sprinkle of fun, laughter and sparkles!

Cinderella – a ballet pantomime!

Ballet and pantomimes are not what you’d call a common combination, but just the name of this production has us hooked! Hosted by the Brigitte Gauci Borda School of Dance, its only downside is that there are only two showings, both on Sunday 15th December at St. Agatha’s Auditorium, Rabat.

Hax-Xjuh: il-pantomina 60+

And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, this season will see a new panto trend on our shores. Aimed at older generations, Teatru Malta's production features popular seasoned actors such as Joe id-Dulli and Ray Calleja and is expected to pack a classic punch of Maltese humour. Its run is comparatively short and stretches between Thursday 12th December and Sunday 15th December.

L-Imbuljata - A Panto in the Dark

Last year they shone with their multi-sensory production Gawgaw: A Panto in the Dark and the team is back at it again this year, except darker and funnier. Held in complete darkness, this panto explores the dilemma of a single mother who has to figure out how to pay her rent just three days before Christmas. Guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seats throughout!

Why bother picking when you can attend all?

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
