Malta is getting hotter and hotter with each passing spring day and many might even think about hitting the beach as the sea temperature steadily rises but you might want to think again after seeing this jellyfish.
Marine biologist, Alan Deidun took to social media to let us know that a ‘snake-like’ jellyfish has been spotted swimming in Maltese waters.
The jellyfish is actually a siphonophore colony which means that it is a large colony of stinging cells sticking together. It goes by the name of Forskalea edwardsii.
As explained by the Maltese marine biologist, “it is also a close relative of Portuguese man o' war”, a deadly jellyfish. The snake-like jellyfish might not be deadly but it nonetheless, has an extremely painful sting.
This type of species can reach up to 10metres, making it quite noticeable so make sure to keep an eye out on any future swims to avoid being stung by such a heinous creature.
