This decades old photo shows Spinola Bay in a very unfamiliar light to the one we know of today.
The black and white shot shows the stunning Spinola Palace and its gardens that stretched all the way down to the bay.
Nowadays, quite a lot of new buildings have been added where the gardens used to be.

Spinola Palace was built all the way back in 1688 by Fra Paolo Rafel Spinola, a knight of the Order of St John.
It was enlarged in the 18th century with the designs of Romano Carapecchia. The palace is considered a Baroque masterpiece in Malta.
Its most unique feature however has to be the elegant clock at the back of the palace. Such a unique feature is only found within this building in all of Malta.
During the time of the British in Malta, the palace served as a military hospital where it changed its name to Forrest Hospital.
At one point during the years right after World War II, it even served as a shelter for the homeless.
It is now largely used to host the Headquarters of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.
