Well done! Coast Is Clear volunteers remove over 1.5 tonnes of waste from Gżira and Qalet Marku Tower
It’s been another incredible week of volunteering, as the Coast is Clear team along with additional volunteers rolled up their sleeves to remove more than 1.5 tonnes of waste from Gżira and the Qalet Marku Tower coastline.
At Qalet Marku, 28 dedicated volunteers braved strong winds to collect a whopping 489 kilograms of rubbish, filling 51 garbage bags and clearing heavy debris from the rocky coastline. The clean-up saw Holland America Line crew members join forces with Coast is Clear to protect this beloved spot often used for camping in Naxxar, proving once again that teamwork makes a difference.
Meanwhile, over in Gżira, Coast is Clear teamed up with the Gżira Local Council for a massive seabed clean-up. Armed with plenty of determination, 19 volunteers from around the world, including scuba divers, snorkellers, kayakers, and onshore helpers, worked together to remove a whopping 1,036 kilograms of waste from the area.
Among the haul were half a tonne of glass, half a tonne of metal, plus all sorts of discarded items – from toilets and pans to buoys, cutlery, and batteries. A surprise appearance from Raniero Borg – the well-known diving enthusiast and activist – gave the team an extra boost, and his expertise and relentless energy helped to make the mission even more impactful.
Well done to everyone who participated!
